February 2024: Greeting from South Africa!

Colleen Crawford

Watch my video update to see what the training I have been doing on Logos Hope is like:

I have been back on the Logos Hope for 5 weeks now. I joined the ship in Mozambique and am currently in Richard’s Bay, South Africa. Tomorrow, we begin a 3 day sail further south in South Africa to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). I will be onboard for another 3 weeks and then will be temporarily returning to Florida.

This was a shorter trip specifically to train their new incoming volunteers. These volunteers will mostly be onboard for 1 to 2 years. I am working with a small team of people whose job it is to train these people in different safety and emergency response aspects. We will also be doing job training for the new ones that will be working specifically within our Deck and Engine departments.

I started out doing training with all our new volunteers, from there we narrowed down the group to just over 30 people who will be working in our emergency response team. We did more in-depth training on firefighting, first aid, survival techniques, crowd control, security, and more. We have just wrapped up that training time and now I will spend the next 3 weeks training 9 new people who will be joining our deck department.

It really is an honor to be able to invest in these volunteers’ lives, as well as in the ministry the ship will be doing over the next two years as these people serve the ship in their new jobs. Thanks to everyone who has a part in supporting me in prayer and financial donations. You also have a part in investing in the ministry of Logos Hope.

When I left the ship in October, we were wrapping up our time in Tanzania. Watch this video to see the ship’s port update from our time there:

I can't miss showing you some of the local wildlife. Just some elephants crossing the road.

Check out these two Rhinos.

We had a few Hippos pop up in the river to say hello.

We got to see a few buffalos. This one was very up close and personal.

We drove by this Antelope, but I can't remember what kind he was.

We saw a traditional performance by some local performers.
